Trip Cancellation

EFY took this photo on the way from Norway to Poland, September 7, 2010.
Wife's brother is expected to live only four weeks.  He has cancer.  Wife and Husband were planning to go to Europe.  Will the trip cancellation clause of their travel insurance apply?

If they took out a Chartis policy, the Standard or Enhanced Travel Guard contract states that Chartis will pay for 'loss of travel fare and/or accommodation expenses paid in advance...and not recoverable...by the following occurring within thirty...days' from the start of the trip: ...sickness... of ...parent-in-law,...brother,...business partner or co-director.'

All other photos: Poland, Sept. 6, 2010.  I had put in the wrong dates in the Canon Ixus 100 IS.--EFY.
So W's advance payments will be returned to her, but not H's.

How much of the advance payments will not be refunded?

I am looking at the Crystal Cruises Mediterranean Trasures [sic] cruise leaving on October 1.

The penalty for cancellations made from September 17 onwards is 100%.  The total cost of the cruise is
$ 5,724, including trip insurance premium of $ 359.  Excluding the trip insurance, the cost of the cruise is
$ 5,365, or P 233,369.13.

The Enhanced and Standard Travel Guard policies will refund up to P 150,000, or a difference of P 83,369.13.

The Travel Guard Annual Business Peso plan just says 'Immediate Family Member' without specifying whether in-laws are included.  The Business Dictionary includes brother-in-law.  The Annual plan's Trip Cancellation limits are
P 150,000 or $ 4,500, depending on the plan.  At $ 4,500, the penalty difference is $ 865, or
P 37,626.15Premium for the $ 4,500 limit is
$ 256, or P 11,135.60.

What are the premiums for a 13-day cruise for senior citizens?  The travel insurance should cover even the flights before and after the cruise, but for the sake of comparison, I looked up the premiums for passengers born in 1936 and 1932.  For those born in 1936, or age 74-75, the Blue Cross Insurance premium for 30,000 Euros medical treatment coverage is 36 Euros for 15 days, or P 2,203.38.  The Annual premium for $ 50,000 coverage  is $ 345, or P 14,988.35.

Chartis travel insurance acceptance age is up to 70 years old only.

For the 79- to 81-year-old passenger, the premium is 108 Euros or  P 6,610.13, or 30% of the travel insurance premium quoted by Dominican Tour.

How to get to Xavier School

Left this comment in the Xavier site, after someone asked for directions on how to get to Xavier from Megamall:

"From EDSA, turn left to Ortigas Avenue, go past La Salle Greenhills, Greenhills Shopping Center, Midland Townhomes, turn left at Ash Creek. Xavier is on the second block, right side.

When I attended the Xavier Kuangchi awarding last March 11, the guard told me that I could play in Xavier, just reserve by phone. When I called up today, the guard said, ‘Naturalmente,’ only Xavierians can use the facilities.

What’s the real story?"

Jose Rizal Unveiling

Ever since Jerome Bautista, Jose Rizal descendant, told me about their site on the national hero, I had been encountering mentions in the broadsheets, like the one last March 14 in Philippine Star, H-2, "CCP, Rustan's Celebrate Italy's 150th Year," which mentions an unveiling of a Rizal plaque, without a venue.  Yet.

More:

In 'Carmen Guerrero-Nakpil: Sterling, irreplaceable Filipino writer,' PDI, March 21, 2011, E1,  F. Sionil Jose mentions the PEN Jose Rizal lecture.

When Fb and Lexpert Collide

I had a Scrabble list in an old myspace blog that I can't access anymore because I had forgotten the password and I can't get the verification right.

Anyway, I thought of pointing out that today, I tried to post the Lexpert word 'seladang,' which Facebook rejected as invalid.  What it accepted was 'sedalang.'  When I was reshot the word, 'seladang' became acceptable!

Anyway, at least I found a new Fb word that my 2006 Lexpert doesn't have: 'Sedalang.'

Internet Cafe near Don Bosco

I was going over my old texts, including one from my semi-colleague Rosalind Alipon in 2009.  I had asked her to recommend an internet cafe on Pasay Road.  I think that my client was looking for one.  We were probably in Isshin at the time.  Anyway, she replied that Pasay Road is long.  If I'm near Don Bosco, then there's Netopia at Waltermart, and if I'm near Greenbelt, there's one in Greenbelt..

Incidentally, my friend Dexter Matilla has been with the Inquirer since graduation, I think and he only knows Chino Roces and Arnaiz and wonders when these street names were new.  I shut up, as it was an age tell. :)
Photo: flyover between Amorsolo and Pasong Tamo--is this the Pasay Road/Amorsolo Interchange?--, where I was kinda trapped by the floods on the two streets and Pasay Road.  I only escaped through South Superhighway.
